Every morning, I wake up, grab myself a cup of coffee, take a seat at my desk, and spend the first hour of my day digging through my SoundCloud stream for undiscovered songs or emerging artists. While many mornings are spent wading my way through the same old tunes and artists, every once in a while, I come across an undiscovered gem like CRWNS with so much talent, that just blows me out of the water.

The Chicago-native, New Orleans-based artist has some serious musical roots to draw his inspirations from, as his Chicago heritage gives CRWNS an acute connection with the birthplace of house music, while his New Orleans location allows him to tap into one of America’s most unique musical cultures firsthand. As a senior at Tulane University, CRWNS has already made a serious name for himself in the Bayou’s thriving dance music scene with countless headlining gigs and a couple stand-out productions, including his first original, “Vibe Machine.” When I heard that CRWNS had remixed Major Lazer’s “Lean On” for his latest output, I was a little skeptical at first, considering the countless remixes that are floating around, but I guess the saying “save the best for last” holds true for a reason, because CRWNS’ remix is nothing short of amazing.

A polished piano melody joins MØ for the first verse of the track, as CRWNS keeps it simple and to the point. Subtle, glitchy synths build anticipation until CRWNS peels back the curtain to reveal soaring arpeggios layered with glimmering synth melodies that gives his remix a decidedly Flume-esque feel. With so much raw talent, the sky’s the limit for CRWNS, so keep an eye out for this rising future bass phenom.
