I’ve had Mackenzie Thoms debut single, “Conviction,” on replay ever since the LA-based artist dropped the track last month, so when I came across a remix of the track by the newcomer, Billy Presley, I had to check it out. After a little digging, it turns out that Bill Presley is an alias of another electronic producer/songwriter, Billy Chapman, and he’s got some serious talent.
Presley picked up the guitar and drums early on his in life, but at fifteen years old, he put aside the traditional instruments in favor of trying his hand at production. This balance between old-school and new-school is what makes Billy Presley and his music so unique, like a breath of fresh air into a style struggling to stay afloat with new ideas.
The remix of “Conviction” is Presley’s first track in nearly a year, and it’s clear as day that Presley spent some serious time in the studio working on this one. Presley lays a bed of glimmering synth sequences and dreamy jazz undertones further punctuated by an array of sun-soaked tropical notes, before peeling back the curtain to reveal a medley of soaring synth arpeggios driven forward by Mackenzie Thoms powerful vocals. Peep it below and keep an eye out for Billy Presley.
