The Tuesday after Labor Day is always a toss-up. On one hand, the extra day off means a longer weekend and a shorter work week, but on the other hand, Labor Day Weekend is always jam packed with shows, festivals, or just backyard pool parties that make today just a little bit harder than it should be. Luckily, my carried-over hangover from the weekend means I’m staying in bed all day, looking for new music to get me over the hump, and my hunt for auditory bliss this morning has led me to the perfect remix for all the weekend warriors looking for a little bit of musical medicine to start the week off right.
It should come as no surprise that this masterful piece of music comes from the hands of Robotaki. The Toronto-based producer has been on an absolute tear this summer, with massive remixes of Autograf’s “Dream” and Tyler Touche’s “Act of God” that have all showcased a different style for the versatile producer, and he’s donned yet another sound for his remix of filous’ “How Hard I Try.”
Soft, angelic piano chords, gentle synth pads, and a bubbly bass line provide a mellow backdrop for James Hersey’s ethereal vocals, as Robotaki expertly crafts a remix that is tender, mellow, and sexy all wrapped up into one.
Holding true to his versatile sound, Robotaki takes a complete left turn on the second half of the remix, as the soft, sultry vibes is infused with a grittier edge. The gentle arrangements are gone, and in their place stand electro-infused synth stabs, cleverly chopped vocal samples, and a thumping bass line that even dares to enter the future bass arena at times. This remix is nothing short of stellar, so check it out below.
